Auditions

The Aurora Symphony is a volunteer community orchestra located in Aurora, Colorado. New musicians are welcome year-round if vacancies are available. The ASO performs a wide range of challenging and enjoyable music in a friendly and warm environment.

For Auditions Please Prepare:

  • Two contrasting selections: a piece that showcases technical ability and a lyrical piece that demonstrates good musical style. Please bring an extra copy of your excerpts with you.

  • If applicable, please be prepared to play a selection for any auxiliary instrument that you can play.
  • Percussionists should prepare a short excerpt for snare drum and a short excerpt for mallets.
  • Auditions last between 7 and 10 minutes. Each of the two selections should be at least four minutes long and they may be a complete movement of a concerto, sonata or etude.

Auditions are held throughout the year:

Auditions for open positions are scheduled before Wednesday evening rehearsals (usually 6:15 p.m.).

Additional Audition Information:

Rehearsals are held in the Community Room of the Aurora Central Library, located at 14949 E Alameda Pkwy in Aurora, unless otherwise noted.

Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 to 9:30 pm.

Dress rehearsals (mandatory for all performing) are held on location the Friday before each concert, from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

Most performances are held on Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm.
