The Artistic Director provides creative leadership to ASO, cultivating a vision for the future and realizing that vision through thoughtful, creative programming and outreach. The Artistic Director is responsible for determining each season’s repertoire, overseeing auditions each fall, securing soloists, and conducting rehearsals and performances for each of approximately 5 programs each season. Each season consists of 3 Masterworks Concerts that feature the standard orchestral repertoire, a fully bilingual (English/Spanish) Young People’s Concert, and a Holiday concert. Each program consists of 6 rehearsals, including a dress rehearsal and 2 performances.
In addition to determining seasonal repertoire, the Artistic Director will also be responsible, with the approval and assistance of the Board of Directors, for determining and securing concert dates and venues. The Artistic Director will ultimately submit to the Board a proposal within budget guidelines that includes performance dates and program expenses for venue rental, guest artists, music rental, instrument rental/purchases, and equipment or other rental requirements. The Artistic Director will also serve as a public representative of ASO, participating in outreach activities such as public events, municipal meetings, presentations to funders, etc. In addition, the Music Director will be a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and will provide monthly reports at each board meeting.
